SMS not coming to iPhone. What to do

0

With the development of Internet messengers, SMS messages have receded not only into the background, but even into the third place. After all, the easiest way is to write to the user through some WhatsApp, Telegram or other instant messengers and know for sure that the message has reached, or just call. SMS began to be used mainly to receive codes for two-factor authentication , various advertising mailings and notifications from the state. They also help out in those situations when the Internet connection is bad, and you urgently need to write something important. Even with a weak signal of the cellular network, SMS will still go to the addressee.

From time to time, iPhone users are faced with the fact that text messages stop reaching their smartphones. It doesn’t happen everywhere, but unfortunately it does happen. We figure out what to do in such a situation and how to protect yourself from missing important information that is sent via SMS.

How to restart iPhone

As I said above, the most common use of SMS messages in 2022 is two-factor authentication codes. In some situations, their absence does not depend on the work of the operator or your smartphone. Therefore, if you are faced with the problem of obtaining codes, for example, for WhatsApp, then be sure to check out our material. In other situations, I propose to immediately proceed to solving the problem directly on the device.

If you know for sure that a message was sent to you, but it is not displayed on your smartphone, then the first thing to do is to restart your smartphone. In general, make it a habit to start solving such problems with a reboot. Most often, this is enough for the smartphone to refresh itself, come to its senses and start working normally. You can restart your iPhone as follows:

  • Open the settings and go to the “General” section.
  • Scroll to the bottom and select “Turn off”.
  • Swipe the slider from left to right and wait until the iPhone turns off completely.
  • After a couple of minutes, start it again by holding the lock button.

Well, for those who do not want to rummage through the menu in search of individual items and sections, the manufacturer has provided the possibility of a hard reset:

  • Press the volume up button.
  • Press the volume down button.
  • Hold the lock button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

In general, a hard reset is faster, so you can go straight to it. Sometimes time is of the essence.

iPhone dual sim

In iOS 16, for iPhone users who use two SIM cards on their smartphones, a very convenient setting has appeared, which can eventually spoil your nerves a little. In the Messages app, you can now filter conversations based on a specific phone number. True, sometimes it is forgotten that a filter is set, and because of this it is not possible to view SMS messages for another number. You can override these settings like this:

  • Open the Messages app.
  • Click on the circle with three dots at the top of the screen.
  • Move the checkbox to “All lines” to see sms on both SIM cards.

But the point may not even be in the configured filters, but simply in the disabled SIM card . You can check it like this:

  • Open settings and select Cellular Data.
  • In the SIM card box, make sure each number is marked “On”.
  • If some SIM is disabled, just go to it and activate the switch “Enable this number”.

Now everything should work, and the messages will go to your iPhone. Try not to forget what settings you have set. Then definitely do not miss important SMS.

How to enable SMS on your phone

If messages still do not go through, then you need to make sure that SMS is allowed on the SIM card itself. On the example of MTS, this is done as follows:

  • Open the application “My MTS”.
  • Click on the name of the tariff on the main page and immediately go to the “Services” section.
  • Select the “Available” tab and expand the “Call and SMS control” block.
  • Locate the “Short Message Service” toggle and make sure it’s turned on.

Otherwise, activate the short message service and wait for the notification that the service is connected. For the rest of the operators, all the plus or minus actions are the same, so checking will not cause you any difficulties.

In some situations, the banal extraction of a SIM card from an iPhone also helps . Why messages start coming after that is not entirely clear. But the method is effective. So don’t neglect them. The main thing is to have a paperclip on hand to remove the tray. Be sure to check the signal strength as well. If the iPhone shows only one bar, then this may not be enough. In such a situation, it is better to relocate to some other place where the connection is better.

Reset iPhone settings

Most often, the problem is solved by one of the methods described above, and there is no need to resort to various resets. But there are also extreme situations when nothing helps. In this case, I recommend reset network settings , which should allow you to start receiving SMS in the usual way:

  • Open the settings and go to the “General” section.
  • Scroll to the very bottom and select Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  • Click “Reset” and select “Reset network settings” from the menu that appears.

As a last resort, you can also perform a full factory reset from here using the “Erase content and settings” button and check if messages reach you on a clean iPhone. It is possible that there was some kind of software failure on the smartphone, and resetting this problem will solve it.
