How to turn off web animations on iPhone with iOS 17 and save bandwidth

0

Recently, there are more and more animated advertising banners on different sites. And the endless movement that occurs on them can be thoroughly annoying. In addition to this, on many resources you can find just separate animations that distract from the text and do not allow you to concentrate on the content of the articles. In iOS 17, Apple has given a great tool to deal with such inserts. You can turn off any animation on the sites in a couple of touches and run it only when necessary.

Thanks to the new setting, you will not only get rid of annoying flickering on the screen, but you will also be able to save data and battery power. After all, the more everything moves on the screen, the faster it discharges. We tell you how to turn off animations on iPhone with iOS 17 , and figure out how to launch gifs when the setting is activated.

How to disable animation in the browser

Any animated inserts on websites significantly increase traffic consumption. Taking into account the fact that there are no unlimited tariffs left, it is better to take care in advance that nothing extra consumes the precious mobile Internet. Before making the appropriate settings, go to the GIPHY website and make sure that all the pictures on the main page are moving. Now let’s turn off the animation in the browser :

  • Open settings on iPhone and go to Accessibility;
  • In the “Vision” block, select “Movement”;
  • Turn off the “Animated Images” toggle switch.

Now you can go to the GIPHY website again to check and you will immediately see that not a single picture on the screen is moving. All of them immediately became static. This setting applies not only to Safari, but also to any other browsers that you can download from the App Store , including Google Chrome, Firefox, and others. By the way, animated images can be disabled on iPad with iPadOS 17 , and even on Mac with macOS Sonoma .

Unfortunately, this setting does not disable all screen animations. She had no problem with the GIFs and some of the banner ads. But either a separate ad was placed in the form of a video, or in some other format, but even with disabled animated images, it still continued to move. Not to say that this is some kind of serious problem, because 90% of the animations were disabled anyway, but it is better to keep this point in mind. Even AdGuard, which is one of the best ad blockers, does not remove ads 100%.

How to enable animation on iPhone

But there are animations that you may need to play. For example, if you want to download some picture from the same GIPHY. A normal touch on the image will not work for this. You have to use a little trick:

  • Open your browser and find the animation you want to play;
  • Hold your finger on it until the context menu appears;
  • At the very bottom, click “Play Animation”.

After these steps, you will immediately see that only one specific animation has started to move on the page. If you often visit resources like GIPHY, you will save a significant amount of traffic thanks to this. After all, it is better to reproduce one thing than the whole page at once.

If, on the contrary, you want all animations to work as before, that is, they start moving immediately after the page loads, then, on the contrary, you should enable animated images in the settings:

  • Open settings on iPhone and go to Accessibility;
  • In the “Vision” block, select “Movement”;
  • Activate the “Animated images” switch.

Now everything will work as before. Just be prepared for increased data consumption and faster battery drain.

Block ads on iPhone

As you understand, using this feature exclusively for blocking ads may not be very convenient, since other animations do not work. In addition, banners are not completely disabled, but only stop moving if they are made animated. For this purpose, it is better to use a special ad blocker :

  • Download AdGuard from the App Store;
  • Open the settings and go to the “Safari” section;
  • Scroll down and select “Extensions”;
  • Enable all items related to AdGuard;
  • Open Safari and go to any site;
  • In the upper left corner, click on the “aA” button and at the very bottom, tap on “AdGuard”;
  • Allow the blocker to work on a specific site, and in the next window – on all sites at once.

Now you don’t have to worry that ads will distract you from browsing the sites. AdGuard will block most of the annoying banners, and you will be able to enjoy the content on the site without any distractions.
