These two settings in Safari on iPad will make your eyes go wild

0

In 2017, Apple released iPad Pro 10.5 , which for the first time in the line of tablets from the company from Cupertino appeared support for Pro Motion technology , or, in other words, high screen refresh rate . It makes all the animations on the screen much smoother and more pleasing to the eye. Moreover, this technology is dynamic and adapts to what the user is doing. But in Safari, where you have to flip through something regularly, high hertz is disabled by default. But these are not all the problems that you may encounter when surfing the web.

For example, a large number of sites do not support a dark theme, which makes it unpleasant to read some resources in the dark. But, as it turned out, all this can be reconfigured. In this article, we will tell you how to force a high screen refresh rate in Safari on iPad Pro and activate dark mode for any site . Your eyes will thank you!

Screen refresh rate in iPad

For what reason, even six years later, Apple still hasn’t made 120Hz support in Safari , I’m completely incomprehensible. It is possible that this is an attempt to save battery power, or maybe the Cupertino company has some other reasons. But the fact remains: neither on the iPhone Pro, nor on the iPad Pro, there is no increased hertz in Safari. Fortunately, the experimental features from Apple’s browser are of no use, and there you can find a lot of interesting things. Here is a complete list of iPad Pro models that support ProMotion’s high refresh rate:

  • iPad Pro 10.5 (2017);
  • iPad Pro 12.9 (2017);
  • iPad Pro 11 (2018);
  • iPad Pro 12.9 (2018);
  • iPad Pro 11 (2020);
  • iPad Pro 12.9 (2020);
  • iPad Pro 11 (2021);
  • iPad Pro 12.9 (2021);
  • iPad Pro 11 (2022);
  • iPad Pro 12.9 (2022).

Before we get into these settings, we need to make sure you don’t have frame rate capping enabled:

  • Open the settings on the iPad;
  • Select the “Universal Access” section;
  • Under “Motion” find “Frame Rate Limiter” and make sure it’s disabled.

Once we have checked these settings, we can proceed to enable high hertz in Safari :

  • Launch the Safari browser and go to the test page . You will see that everything is running at 60 Hz;
  • Open the settings and go to the Safari section;
  • Scroll to the very bottom and select “Add-ons”;
    • Open the “Experimental Features” section;
  • All the toggles here are in alphabetical order, so find “Prefer Page Rendering Updates near 60fps” and turn it off;
  • Open the multitasking panel and unload Safari from it;
  • Launch your browser again and go to the test page.

Immediately afterwards, you should be able to see a 120Hz refresh rate . If you flip through different pages, then all the animations will become much more pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to activate this feature on the iPhone – it simply isn’t there. Therefore, iPad users are the luckiest. I will add that after using a smartphone with a screen refresh rate of 144 Hz on an ongoing basis , it is very difficult to perceive a screen with 60 Hz. If you use it for a long time, you get used to it. But unhurried animations can be seen even with the naked eye and processor performance is definitely not to blame.

How to make a site dark

Well, those who like to rummage around the Internet before going to bed in the dark will definitely appreciate the opportunity to add a night mode to absolutely any site. Agree that it is very unpleasant when the screen abruptly begins to blind when you click on a link. It is a pity that such a function is not available by default in browsers so that you do not have to install various third-party extensions. In this situation, we will use the application “Dark Mode – Night Eye” :

    • Download the Dark Mode – Night Eye app from the App Store;
      • Open the settings and go to the “Safari” section;
    • Select “Extensions”;
    • Go to “Dark Mode – Night Eye”;
    • Activate the switch at the top of the page and open the “All websites” item;
    • Move the checkbox to Allow

Now just go to the site that only has a white interface and see how it changes. The application does not use pure black, but more charcoal and gray fonts. This combination allows you to perceive information much more comfortably than if it were the usual black and white colors. To disable dark mode for a specific site, do the following:

  • In the address bar, click on the dark mode icon;
  • In the window that appears, select “Normal”.

Plus, you can make it so that the night mode is activated exclusively manually. Then in the Safari settings, where we activated the permission for this application, you need to check the “Deny” box in the “All websites” section. After going to the selected site, do the following:

  • In the address bar, click on the puzzle;
  • Click on “Night eye” and allow him access to the site for 1 day.
  • The site will immediately change colors to dark. As you can see, everything works very simply and quickly. In this case, no brakes and glitches are observed. If you are an iPad Pro owner, you can activate 120 Hz in Safari and at the same time dark mode for any site . There is not much useful in a glowing screen in the dark, but at least this way you can minimize the overall harm. Or maybe you just want all sites to go with your dark theme. Then this method is for you.
