5 iOS 17 Features We Didn’t Expect

0

Every year, we look forward to major iOS improvements from Apple that will be of practical use every day. It’s only recently that this has become more and more difficult: the Cupertino people apparently believe that their operating system is almost perfect, so they add rather strange features to new versions that cause bewilderment among users. The most interesting thing is that iOS has room to grow, only Apple bypasses useful features. We chose for you the most unexpected innovations in iOS 17 and explained what is wrong with them.

Child lock on iPhone

Apple regularly improves iPhone security systems, making it less vulnerable to external threats. But sometimes the Cupertinos obviously go too far and do some kind of game: this is how iOS 17 appeared blocking photos with inappropriate content . It should protect users, primarily children, from inappropriate content, but there is practically no benefit in this option.

The iPhone will blur the image , but you can still view it by clicking on the show button. But even if you complain about the photo, the feedback goes nowhere, and it’s probably not difficult to deceive neural networks. It is reported that the extension will work when transferred via AirDrop and in third-party applications, but at WWDC it was announced only in iMessage, which few people use.

Instead, the Cupertinos could finally add multi-account support to the iPhone , like on macOS or Android. So you could really protect your data from prying eyes when you give your smartphone to someone else, as well as fully manage your child’s iPhone . Either way, this would be a cool feature for an iPad that everyone in the family often uses.

Put the photo on the contact in the iPhone

Apple hit rock bottom with another “innovation” by adding Contact Posters in iOS 17 . In fact, the developers used the lock screen settings from the current version of the operating system and transferred them to your phone book settings. Font, images and other effects for contacts – who will use it? In 2023, few people add photos to their subscriber cards, let alone customize fonts or create memojis. It looks very strange and most useless.

Instead of this incomprehensible function, the Cupertinos could have developed last year’s idea and made the lockscreen settings more flexible: new fonts for the clock, free arrangement of widgets are just a small part of what is missing for customizing the iPhone screen. Since we have begun to steal functions from Android , we must do it with high quality!

Live wallpaper on iPhone lock screen

At WWDC, Apple also introduced the ability to install Live Photos on the lock screen , but they will obviously work differently than they did before the advent of iOS 16. The fact is that the animation will only work at the moment when you unlock the screen.

It turns out that this is clearly not the live wallpaper that got rid of a year ago. In addition, when they are installed, the system greatly enlarges the image, as a result of which the quality is noticeably reduced. Can you imagine how miserable live photography will be on the big iPad screen?

How to open multiple apps on iPhone

Split View for iPhone users have been waiting for years, and things are still there: last year, Apple added a Stage Manager for the iPad , and even then not for everyone. Instead of making multitasking for the iPhone , the Cupertinos have only slightly improved it on tablets. It is not very clear why in 2023 it is possible to place two applications on the screen even on a cheap Android smartphone , but not on the iPhone 14 Pro Max , which many people cannot afford even almost a year after the start of sales.

How to send a contact from iphone to iphone

At the last presentation, Apple introduced the NameDrop contact sending function , which from the outside is more like using infrared: you need to attach an iPhone to an iPhone or Apple Watch to share a card from the phone book.

True, this function only works when Bluetooth is on and at close range, so the Cupertino team obviously did not come up with anything new. Moreover, it was copied from Android ! It turns out that the data transfer process was complicated because you can send a contact from an iPhone through the good old AirDrop, not to mention the fact that it is easier to do it through a messenger.

In general, iOS 17 is still more like a major update to the current operating system – it clearly does not pull on the new version. Just take a look at the list of all the features that it has – Apple has not released such a boring update for a long time.
