Why the iPhone 12 Pro Max is better than other flagship smartphones on the market

0

Despite the fact that iPhone users have long had no complaints about their autonomy, the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 have always been considered absolute leaders. Thanks to the IPS screen, which consumed significantly less energy than AMOLED, and a large battery, these devices lived on one charge for as long as possible. , surpassing even more advanced models. However, after Apple moved the sub-flagship model to organic screens, and increased the battery capacity of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the balance of power changed somewhat. Oddly enough, in favor of the oldest model.

DxOMark, a mobile camera testing laboratory, has expanded its reach and started testing the batteries of modern smartphones. In the very first test, experts tested the iPhone 12 Pro Max and awarded it the title of absolute leader among other flagship smartphones. He scored a whopping 78 points and with an average load worked for 49 hours, or just over two days in a row. This is a good indicator, especially for a device from the top segment.

Here’s what the top ten smartphones in terms of battery life look like:

  • Samsung Galaxy M51
  • Wiko Power U30
  • Oppo Find X3 Neo
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • Vivo Y20s
  • Huawei P40 Lite
  • Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro 5G
  • OnePlus 8T
  • Moto G9 Plus
  • Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G (Snapdragon)

You’ve probably noticed that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is in fourth place, and not in first, as it was announced. But look what kind of devices are ahead of Apple’s flagship smartphone. All these are devices from the middle and initial segments, which, firstly, are equipped with much less productive hardware, and secondly, they have lower quality, and therefore less resource-intensive display, well, and, thirdly, they are not equipped with an example of more a capacious battery. So everything is fair here: the iPhone 12 Pro Max is truly the leader among the flagships.

How long does iPhone 12 Pro Max last from charging

DxOMark’s methodology for calculating autonomy and battery efficiency is extremely simple and straightforward. It consists of simulating normal use. But since each user has his own scenario of use, the laboratory experts test it in three load modes at once – from light to heavy. Then the arithmetic mean is calculated from the resulting indicators, which is used as the average value.

  • In lightweight mode, a robot, placed with a smartphone in a Faraday cage, makes calls, sends messages, interacts with the desktop, and watches videos. In this mode, the iPhone 12 Pro Max worked for over 61 hours.
  • In the medium load mode, work with social networks, a navigator, taking photos and videos is added to the already existing test scenarios, and the total number of calls made will increase. In this mode, the iPhone worked those 49 hours.
  • Well, and under increased load – with games, applications, video, and web surfing, the battery life of the iPhone 12 Pro Max was at least 30 hours. True, it is logical that in this mode the smartphone is not used very often or not for a very long time.

Overall, 78 points is a good mark. DxOMark experts praised the battery life of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, describing it as a highly energy-efficient smartphone. However, they were not entirely satisfied with the efficiency of charging the smartphone. Not only does the peak power at which it can charge is only 20 W, while the competitors have it up to 120 W, but also after 80%, the charging speed drops dramatically. As a result, the smartphone takes more than an hour to charge, while 30-40 minutes is considered the standard for modern flagships.
