WhatsApp is amongst the most popular instant messaging applications that help users share messages, pictures and documents instantly with their contacts. Due to its easy to use functionality and attractive features, WhatsApp has grown on to become one of the trendy instant messaging apps and is used by millions of users around the world. WhatsApp adds new features to the app regularly thereby improving its functionality and user experience. One of the latest features that this social networking platform has introduced is of WhatsApp payments.

What are WhatsApp Payments
WhatsApp Payments is a peer to peer (P2P) payment system which is based on the UPI (Unified Payment Interface) system in India. This functionality is now available on both Android and iOS platforms and would enable the users to send and receive money from their WhatsApp contacts. As of now, there are no plans from WhatsApp to support merchant payments on the platform. To be able to send and receive the money using WhatsApp Payments, both the receiver and sender must have UPI option configured on their phones.

How to use WhatsApp Payments
Open the App on your smartphone and select the “Settings” option and thereafter, select the “Payments” option. Now you must select the “Add New Account” option. Afterwards, you will need to verify your phone number via SMS, so on the next screen tap on the “Accept and Continue” button. Now you must complete the verification process. Once you have verified your phone number, you will be able to see a list of the supported banks. Now select your bank and enter the account information and follow the on-screen prompts. Then you will be asked to set up your UPI PIN.
Now Confirm your UPI Pin and then press on “Done” Button. Now your WhatsApp payment feature is ready to use.

How to send money using WhatsApp Payment
Now that you have set-up the payments feature on your WhatsApp; you are all ready to start sending money.
Open WhatsApp on your phone and then open the conversation with the person to whom you want to send the money. Now press the “+” button on the bottom left corner. If you are using Group Chat, the process is similar. Open the chat window and press the “+” button on the bottom left corner. Select the “Payment” option. Now if you are using group chat window, you will need to perform one more step. Just select the name of the person to whom you want to send money. Now enter the amount you wish to send and create a note to be submitted along with. Tap on the send button. Now you will be asked to type your 4-digit UPI PIN. Type in the correct PIN and tap on submit button. That’s it; the transaction is now complete.
You need not do anything to receive the money sent by someone. It will be credited to your bank account automatically, and you will receive a notification from your bank

This new feature fromWhatsApp Payments is expected to make the process of sending and receiving money from your contacts really convenient.
