6 ways to find out which iPad you have

0

The question: “ what is this iPhone? » is usually easy to answer, all smartphones are different from each other in one way or another. In one, the camera block is located diagonally, in the other, the bangs are smaller, and the third has differences in the form of body colors. With the iPad, things are a little more complicated. Firstly, many users buy a tablet exclusively as a bedside gadget. They are simply not interested in what iPad model it is, and what it can do – it shows a video on YouTube and is okay. Yes, and Apple itself often advertises its models as just an iPad, without indicating any information about this. If suddenly you are going to sell the iPad or want to know if your tablet supports any program, then you’ve come to the right place. In today’s article, we will try to analyze all the most popular ways to find out the iPad model.

How to see which iPad I have

Interesting fact: Apple itself understands that it is difficult for many to find out what kind of iPad they have. Otherwise, they simply would not have released a separate article on their official website, which tells how to distinguish one iPad from another.

To find out the iPad model, Apple suggests the following:

  • Find the model number on the back of your iPad.
  • If your iPad is in a case, go to Settings, About this device.
  • Tap on the Model number section and see the number starting with the Latin letter A.
  • Next, go to the Apple page and match the number on the iPad and those displayed on the site (you can use the search on the page).

This method will give you comprehensive information about your model. On the site, for each generation of iPad, all the information that you might need is attached:

  • Year of issue.
  • Capacity.
  • Model number.
  • Color.
  • SIM card tray.
  • Camera.
  • Sensors.

This method is perfect in case you want to find out if the iPad model, is turned off. Well, judge for yourself what to do if the device has been gathering dust on a cabinet shelf for a long time, and you suddenly decide to sell it, but there is no charging?

However, I propose a much simpler option:

  • Open Settings on iPad.
  • Next, go to General, About this device.
  • See the Model Name section.
  • This lists the iPad lineup (Classic, Air, Pro) and generation.

IMPORTANT: The first item in the About device section is iPad Name. Do not pay any attention to it, because the Name of iPad, iPhone, Mac, and other Apple devices can be easily changed by tapping on it and entering any name you want. If you don’t believe me, try it yourself.

How to find out which iPad model it is

Next, you should pay attention to more understandable signs, one of which is the Home button located on the front panel of the iPad.

Attention! There is no Home button on these iPad models :

  • iPad Pro from 2018 (3rd generation and up).
  • iPad Air from 2020 (4th generation and up).
  • iPad mini 2021 (6th generation).

Accordingly, if you are offered to buy a 3rd generation iPad Pro, and you see a button at the bottom of the display and large frames, it’s time to run away from such a seller, they are trying to swindle you for money. And, of course, if you buy an iPad Air 3, then it must have a button.

Another way to find out which iPad you have is to look at the charging port .

  • The 30-pin connector is only found on classic 3rd generation and older iPad models.
  • The Lightning connector is used on iPad 4th generation and later, iPad Air 1, 2, 3 generation, iPad Pro 1.2 generation.
  • In principle, these characteristics will be enough for most users. As a last resort, you can always go to the official Apple website and see all iPad models at a glance. However, to be completely honest, there are a couple of other parameters by which you can distinguish one iPad from another.
  • How to understand what kind of iPad

Another way to understand which iPad model you have is in the camera . Most of all Apple tablets have only one camera, but all 2020 and newer iPad Pro models have two camera modules, similar to the blocks in the latest iPhones. And, of course, if the iPad does not have a camera, then this is the 1st generation iPad.

Next are the speakers. All iPad Pro models, without exception, have 4 speakers: two are at the bottom (next to the charging port), and two are at the top. All other iPads have either two or one speakers.

But, keep in mind, it’s very easy to get confused here: firstly, the latest iPad mini and iPad Air seem to have 4 speakers, but in fact, there are only two. It’s just such a design element, in fact, it’s empty. Secondly, in almost all tablets there are two holes for speakers at the bottom, but in reality, there is only one speaker. In general, I would not use speakers as a way to recognize the iPad model.
